Well here it is, the movie that saved the Disney studio. From what I heard they had to make alot of cutbacks after the war making movies that weren't quite feature length animated. Apparently the success of this movie was crucial to the studio financially. If it had flopped there might not even be a Disney studios today! I'll leave you to decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Walt put alot into this one.

Walt introduced his 5 bucks a gag rule to encourage creative thought among his writers. If your gag got used you got 5 bucks which was alot in 1950. It must have worked because this movie is full of gags! but it also has drama and  suspense. Recently this movie is more popular than ever, especially with little girls. It must be the whole princess fantasy because they sell alot of dress up toys. I work at Toys R Us where we have a whole aisle dedicated to Disney Princess toys. Cinderella has quite a large space on that aisle. It's noteworthy that she doesn't become a princess until she marries the prince.
It's kind of unfortunate however that this movie has a straight to video sequel like many other Disney classics. I haven't seen it but every critic on Rotten Tomatoes hated it. They're also working on a 3rd movie, or so I've heard. Another attempt at a quick buck.
One thing I notice is that in every other Cinderella there is a fat stepsister and a thin one. Both stepsisters are thin in this one. I guess they were trying to be different.

This movie has a new DVD. Your kids will like it and maybe you will to.

Goodguys:
Cinderella: Perhaps the most popular Disney princess.
Jack: Thin mouse, tries to be helpful
Gus: Fat dopey mouse, comic relief
Fairy Godmother: She makes dreams come true with her magic. She also knows TF magic!

Badguys:
Lady Tremaine: The evil stepmother, one of the greatest Disney villains actually in my opinion
Drezella & Anasatia: Ugly stepsisters, both demanding and nasty
Lucifer: An evil cat who falls to his death but comes back for the sequel anyway

Others:
Prince Charming: Not the same Prince Charming From Snow white but close enough
